History of MFCOVA

The first Virginia office of the original parent company “Marine Forwarding Company” was opened by Marshall V. Slawson in 1971.  He started in the forwarding business in June of 1953 with W.O. Smith & Company. Seventeen years later, he became V.P.  When he opened the Virginia office in 1971 for Marine Forwarding Company,  he gained the respect of many through his kindness, honesty, wit,  charm and his amazing analytical brain.   Following in his footsteps, his daughter and now Owner of the “new” Marine Forwarding Company Of Virginia Office is Lana A. Ponsonby.   Working full time and attending college directly after graduation, she managed to run the Virginia Office of Marine Forwarding Company for 20 years until she became Vice President in 2001. Training, consulting and problem resolution is her specialty due to her expertise passed down from generations.  In 2015, through the grace of God, Lana opened “MFCOVA”   Marine Forwarding Company of Virginia.  Through her father’s 51 years of knowledge and subsequent training, together with 36 years of  actual freight forwarding experience,  MFCOVA earned the respect and business of many large corporations for more than 35 years.  We give simple solutions to exporters and importers for many complex logistical needs.  Expertise in Hazardous Materials allows us to service many chemical exporters & importers.  We’ve been labeled by our customers as the one stop shop for giving easy solutions to tough logistical problems.   Let us provide you with the peace of mind and confidence of allowing us to handle all of your logistics needs.
